The Key to Our Truly Eco-Friendly Packaging
As with all great environmentally friendly changes, we took a multi-faceted approach to creating our recyclable Tetra Recart wet dog food packaging. By looking at our impact on the environment in all the following ways, we were able to greatly improve our eco-friendly edge.
Renewable Resources
Renewable resources are at the heart of our Tetra Recart package design. In fact, 69% of our paperboard carton uses renewable materials. Cans, on the other hand, use nine times more non-renewable resources than paperboard. Since the renewable materials quickly regrow, their impact on the environment is negligible, helping greatly reduce our – and your – carbon pawprint.
Responsible Sourcing
When it comes to sourcing sustainable packaging materials, we don’t just take anyone’s word for it. Instead, we seek out material suppliers who only gather resources from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests.
FSC-certification ensures that:
- The trees do not come from intact natural forests or have a high conservation value
- Strategic replanting and natural regeneration replace all the trees harvested at any given time
- Harvesting the trees does not destroy the natural characteristics of the forest nor its biodiversity
With that, we can trust that we’re always on the right track in staying eco-conscious and helping you do the same.

Recyclable Makeup
Although renewable, responsibly sourced materials allow us to reduce our impact on the environment, it doesn’t let you fully get in on the action. Don’t get us wrong. Choosing brands that make that effort is a big deal, of course, but that often doesn’t feel like it’s enough.
With that in mind, we made sure to make our Tetra Recart wet dog food packaging 100% recyclable. As you put each empty and recently cleaned pack in the recycling bin, more of your household waste gets diverted from the local landfills. Low Package Weight
To complete this picture of perfection, we set out to create a package with the lowest weight possible. As a result of those efforts, our Tetra Recart package comes in at just 17 grams. In comparison, cans are 50 grams on average while glass jars are a stunning 200 grams.
The low weight means that our packages require far fewer materials to make. On top of that, the package takes up less room in the trucks and decreases fuel usage to improve transportation efficiency. So, whether you’re waiting for your wet dog food to arrive or putting the empty packages out for recycling, you can rest assured that the trucks tasked with their transport can make their moves at peak efficiency.
Recyclable Packaging Aligns with Our Eco-Conscious Mission
Our entire approach centers around staying eco-conscious in all we do. For starters, by using insect protein, our dog food takes less land and water to produce than traditional protein formulas. Beyond that, using insects eliminates methane production from the equation, emitting 740% less greenhouse gas than dog food and treats made from beef.
