Why Crickets?

Did you know that crickets are a nutty-flavored superfood with more essential nutrients per pound than chicken or beef? And they’re hypoallergenic, humanely sourced, and better for the environment — using up less natural resources and emitting fewer greenhouse gases compared to other animal proteins.

Now, we’re not the first to try crickets. Humans (and dogs) have been eating insects for thousands of years. But, at Jiminy’s, we are one of the first to add powdered cricket protein to our dog food and treats. AND, we’re working with experts to better understand and unlock the many health benefits for our dogs!

HIGH QUALITY, DIGESTIBLE PROTEIN

When we started, there was still a question about whether dogs can digest cricket protein. We decided to answer that question! Jiminy’s partnered with Iowa State to take a deep dive into digestibility and cricket protein scored as high in digestibility as chicken or beef.

HYPOALLERGENIC

Beef, chicken, lamb, soy and even fish are the most common ingredients that trigger dog allergies. Vets are already using Jiminy's in elimination diets because cricket protein is not an allergen.

CRICKETS USE 67% LESS LAND THAN CHICKENS

Crickets are farmed in barns, and require exponentially less land to produce an equivalent amount of protein. 93% less land than beef.

FEWER GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

740% LESS THAN BEEF TREATS

270% LESS THAN CHICKEN TREATS

Jiminy’s partnered with Carbon Credit Capital to measure the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with our products.

LONG, HAPPY LIFE

Our crickets live a long and happy life. They are harvested close to the end of their natural life cycle – far different from other protein sources. In addition, the harvesting process is extremely humane as well.

FOOD SAFETY

Did you know that there are safety benefits to cricket protein dog treats like Jiminy's? Crickets raised at clean indoor farms have been found to be free of common pathogens that plague the meat industry. Cricket protein doesn't have salmonella, E. coli, staph, listeria, etc. Another reason to love these treats!!!
